Spider is due later this year, and the first facts about the car are leaking out. It will use a three-piece folding roof that will be stored behind the seats. 

The folding roof used on the Spider is the same system patented by Webasto that is used on the Ferrari 458 Italia SpiderFerrari 458 SpiderItaly, 2011 > present18 photos

. For the McLaren, the roof sections will be made from either aluminum or carbon fiber to keep weight down. The roof will fold and stack behind the rear seats. It saves enough room to keep the clear panel in the rear to see the engine. It will also have a roll-over hoop for safety that will give the car a targa appearance. 

The engine will be the same twin-turbo, 3.8l V8 with 592hp and 442lb-ft of torque as the standard car. 

McLaren is also working on a more powerful car due sometime next year. It will likely be a successor to the F1McLaren F1United Kingdom, 1992 > 19986 versions
