Mercedes-Benz is presenting the full details on the 2012 C 63 AMG. The new top-of-the-range C-Class has received several technological enhancements that should increase the pleasure of driving but still be able to make it a more efficient vehicle.
The C 63 AMG will be powered by the AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine which boosts 457 hp at 6800 and 600 Nm of torque at 5000 rpm. Thanks to the naturally aspirated engine combined with the same AMG Speedshift MCT 7-speed sports transmission fitted on the SL 63 AMG the C 63 AMG is able to accelerate from standstill to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 250 km/h (electronically limited).
Available in both the sedan and estate bodies the C 63 AMG will be offering improved fuel efficiency thanks to the "Controlled Efficiency" mode on the AMG Speedshift MCT transmission and to a new power steering pump. In the combined NEDC the sedan version saw its fuel consumption reduced by ten percent to 12.0l/100km, while in the estate version it was reduced to 12.3l/100km. This represents CO2 emissions of 280g/km on the sedan version and 288 in the estate version.
In terms of design the C 63 AMG is described by Mercedes-Benz as more dynamic and athletic. It received a new radiator grille that features a large Mercedes star and a wing-type transverse louver, but also the new AMG front apron with a lower cross member painted in high-gloss black. Other new features include special AMG daytime running lights and side air outlets, with the front section recalling the look of the SL 63 AMG high-performance roadster.
The back also reminds the SL 63 AMG. It features a distinctive, black diffuser insert with three pronounced diffuser fins and the two chromed twin tailpipes of the AMG sports exhaust system.
Both body versions of the C63 AMG will be available on the market from July 2011.
