Mercedes-Benz is launching a new E-Class variant to compete with the Audi A6 Allroad and the Volvo V90 Cross Country. The new high-ride estate vehicle will make its world debut at the Paris Motor Show. Sales will begin in the spring of 2017.
The German brand states that the All-Terrain is the most versatile E-Class ever as it combines the all-wheel drive and SUV looks with the space concept of the estate. The 4MATIC all-wheel drive featured as standard as well as the increased ground clearance make it a flexible all-r ounder for unpaved roads, family and leisure time.
Thanks to the off-road styling elements the All-Road gets a more robust appearance distinguishing it immediately from the estate model. One of the most eye-catching feature is the SUV-style two-fin grille with a star integrated in the centre. The distinctive front bumper and the panelling in underride guard-look, electroplated in silver-chrome, also contribute to the robust appearance.
In the side view the black wheel arch covers are a distinctive feature that emphasise the all-terrain character. This also applies to the side skirt that comes in the same colour and features a chrome trip strip. The All-Terrain also features a unique three-part bumper at the rear with the top part painted in the body colour and the lower part in grained black plastic.
The All-Terrain will be launched as an E 220d 4MATIC with the newly developed four-cylinder diesel engine with a 194hp output. Later Mercedes will be launching a six-cylinder diesel version. Both models will be fitted with the new 9G-TRONIC nine-speed automatic transmission as standard.
