Mercedes introduced the first images of a new city deliver vehicle called the Citan, which Mercedes says blends the words city and titan. It will be added to the range of Mercedes vans: the Vario, Sprinter and Vito. The Citan will fit into an even smaller weight class than the Vito. Mercedes says these small vans now fulfill a 700,000 vehicle niche in Europe.
“We will take advantage of the trend toward city vans, which our brand will be able to exploit thanks to its attractively priced vehicles and the high quality of our products and services," said Volker Mornhinweg, Head of Mercedes-Benz Vans.
Mercedes did not announce specifics about the vehicle's size or engine options, but it did say that it will offer a mix of gasoline and diesel engines, including BlueEFFICIENCY options. All variants will come with ESP standard.
The Citan will launch in Europe in the fall of 2012.
