are developing a new four-cylinder engine family and a new eight-speed transmission that will meet Euro VI emissions standards. Mercedes is trying to apply that new efficiency across its entire line including its buses. In Madrid, it is showing two new bus chassis, new engines and new transmissions.

Mercedes' new 7.7-liter OM 936 six-cylinder diesel engine for buses uses Adblue injection, an oxidation catalytic converter and a particulate filter. It also only need oil changes every 120,000 km. This is still while producing 299hp or 354hp depending on tune. It fits in either Mercedes' OC 500 LE chassis for buses or OC 500 RF for coaches.

The same features are available in Mercedes' new 10.7-liter OM 470 six-cylinder diesel engine that produces either 394hp or 428hp depending on tune. This larger engine only fits in the OC 500 RF coach chassis.

Both new chassis are available standard with a six-speed manual or a brand new eight-speed automatic. Mercedes says that the new eight-speed shifts faster and more smoothly than previous automatics for heavy vehicles. The six-speed has been redesigned to weigh 30kg less than previously by changing the way it is cooled.

The combination of this new equipment means that Mercedes heavy vehicles will meet Euro VI emissions standards.
