Barcelona tire test has taken another weird turn. The team was banned from the young driver test at Silverstone as punishment for the test, but following the exploding tire fiasco at the British Grand Prix, the young driver test was changed to a tire test. Mercedes is still banned from this test, but Pirelli has announced that it will share the data from the three-day test with Mercedes.
Pirelli says that it has a policy of sharing all of its tire data with all of the teams.
"The teams will have a very clear tire test program. They have to run what we are telling them to run. Mercedes do have a lot of data from the tire from last year in terms of the way it will affect aero and set-up.
"However, we give all the teams the same feedback. We look at the same data, so they have all the same information,” said Paul Hembery, Pirelli Motorsport Director.
Following the British Grand Prix, Pirelli announced that at the Hungarian Grand Prix it would use last season’s tires with this season’s compounds.
"We are looking at our experiences. We did some comparisons in Brazil between 2012 and 2013 tires, so we are looking at all that data.
"We don't expect the changes to be dramatic, but I think the construction changes are the ones that are going to be most significant,” said Mercedes Team Principal Ross Brawn.
