Connected App has added a feature that it calls the Driving Excitement Analyser that analyzes how well drivers control their car and awards them with achievements in the app. The feature was added in the latest update to the Mini Connected App.

The feature looks at how well drivers accelerate, steer, how well-planned shifts are and how well braking is planned. Drivers earn experience points that are displayed both in the app and on the onboard monitor. Whenever a driver receives 100 points in any category, they level up to score badges. Drivers can also get badges for driving past specific points, for instance the Mini factory in Oxford, England.

For example, if drivers shift within a specific rev range and in less than 1.2 seconds, then they will get maximum points. Drivers are also prompted with a “Perfect change up” message on the monitor.

The system has been tuned to keep drivers from driving recklessly just for points. Braking too hard or hard corners will award no points and a warning to appear on the monitor.

To add the app to their car, drivers just need to download for free from the Apple App Store and upload it to the car via their iPhone. There is not an Android version at this time. Cars have to have either the Mini Visual Boost radio or Mini navigation system for it to work.

The latest version of the app also includes connections to web radio, Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, Stitcher, RSS support and access to the iPhone’s calendar.

The Mini Connected App has also added a Force Meter and digital instruments to the car.
