where the internal combustion engine charges the electric motor; and a pure electric car. Mitsubishi claims that the car has a 800km range and produces 50g/km of CO2.

Mitsubishi has not explained what advantages this system has over a conventional hybrid system that is either parallel or series.

It is the first vehicle on the market that can do this. It will also be the first plug-in hybrid put on sale by Mitsubishi, and it will have all-wheel drive.

The Outlander plug-in hybrid shown in Paris will also show the next generation body style.

The normal internal combustion Outlander will go on sale in Europe this fall, and the plug-in hybrid version will go on sale in the first quarter of 2013.
