Mercedes-Benz has revealed the first photos of the new generation of the CLS, set to have its world premiere in October at the Paris Motor Show. Having created a new class and becoming a style icon when it was presented in 2003, according to Joachim Schmidt, member of the board of Mercedes-Benz Cars, Sales & Marketing the second generation of the four-door coupé takes the inspiration from the great tradition of stylish, refined sportiness of the Mercedes coupés and at the same time “points the way forward for the future perceptible design idiom of Mercedes-Benz.”
Although it keeps the same proportions with a long bonnet, narrow-look windows with frameless side windows and dynamic roof sweeping back at an angle towards the rear, the second generation CLS received a entirely new look.
The front of the new CLS reminds us of the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG with the radiator grille that seems like it is not integrated into the bonnet, highlighting the long, sporty bonnet. The brand identity and the relationship to the other Mercedes coupés are granted by the large central star that dominates the grille. Also enhancing the athletic appearance of the four-door coupé are the large, elongated dark air inlets with black grilles.
The new CLS will be featuring full LED headlamps, becoming the first car to offer all of the regular dynamic light functions using LED technology. With a total of 71 LEDs the CLS gets an unmistakable appearance, but also an enhanced view of the road compared with previous systems.
