range as just the standard car and the new 4Motion. It will have six more variants of its ubiquitous hatchback on sale in the next 12 months.
The performance-oriented Golfs will be the GTD, GTI and Golf R. The GTI has already been shown in concept form with either 220hp or 230hp tunes of the 2.0 TSI engine.
The Golf R will get the new, longer stroke 2.0-liter from new Audi S3Audi S3 2.0 TFSIGermany, 2012 > present28 photos
with 300hp and 280lb-ft and the latest Haldex all-wheel drive system from the 4Motion. In the S3, the new 2.0-liter engine gets the car to 100km/h in 5.1 seconds or 5.4 seconds with the dual clutch transmission. The Golf R will probably be slightly slower because it does not have the extensive amount of aluminum in the chassis and body that the S3 does. While it is the most exciting of the new cars, VW is saving the best for last. It will not be on sale until early 2014.
There will also be a new GTD model, but Volkswagen has not revealed its revised specs yet.
There will also be more fuel-efficient versions of the Golf in the Blue Motion and electric eGolf.
The final upcoming Golf variant will be the new Golf estate.
