Nissan ESFLOW: electric sports car to debut in Geneva

At this year’s Geneva Motor Show Nissan wants to show that it is possible to apply the electric technology without compromising the performance and the joy of driving. With the Esflow concept car Nissan has brought together the looks, drivability and performance of sports cars while using the same technology applied on the Nissan Leaf.

The two-seater concept has been developed as a pure electric vehicle, in order to show people what a Zero Emission sports car might look in the future. It features a long bonnet, a compact cabin, which puts the cabin on the car’s centre of gravity.

As the Esflow wasn’t adapted from a previous Nissan internal combustion engine powered vehicle, the designers of the Japanese brand were able to create every aspect of the car, being able to place the power train and batteries in the optimum positions to benefit the car's handling and performance.

The Esflow is powered by two electric motors placed above the axis of the rear wheels, in a mid-ship position. With each engine controlling each wheel the torque is optimized, ensuring stability and control of the vehicle, while improving efficient power regeneration. According to Nissan the Esflow concept car is able to reach the 100km/h mark in less than 5 seconds.

The same laminated lithium-ion battery packs used in the Nissan LEAF also power the Esflow, but in this case the packs have been placed along the axis of the front and rear wheels. By doing so Nissan was able to centralize the mass of the car and increase the range of this vehicle to more than 240 km on one single charge.
