The Karl nampelate pays tribute to one of the sons of Adam Opel, founder of Opel in 1862. While Adam made the company the largest bicycle manufacturer in Germany, his sons Carl, Wilhelm and Friedrich ventured in automobile production from 1898 and launched the first model of the brand next year.

The new car measures 3.68 meters long, has five doors, offers room for five people and will be placed on the market at a price range around 10,000 euros. Together with the KARL, the ADAMADAM Gen.1Opel ADAM Gen.1Germany, 2012 > present25 versions

, Opel bets even stronger on the city car and utilitary segment.

"The KARL is the ideal car for those looking for an affordable model that combines practicality with comfort and modern technology," explains the CEO of Opel Group, Karl-Thomas Neumann.

In terms of design, KARL stands out with three sharp lines on the sides, two of which fitting the door handles. The large headlights and posted rear optical groups show the great attention to detail and give a younger image to the new model.

Engine

To equip the new KARL model, Opel specifically developed a new petrol 1.0 ECOTEC engine, which delivers 75 hp. This is a modern three-cylinder powertrain that is part of the latest generation of engines of the German brand.

With this engine Opel focused mainly on efficiency and it was combined with a manual five-speed gearbox.

Technologies

The KARL will provide unusual equipment in products from this price range, including the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) with Traction Control, ABS with Electronic Brake Distribution and Hill Start Assistance and Lane Departure Alert systems.

Similar to what happens with the ADAM and the Corsa, the new Opel KARL also has the 'City' mode with increased direction assistance which facilitates maneuvers in city traffic. Also useful in the city will be the Park Assist system with parking sensors and the Speed Limiter Scheduler, which lets the driver more relaxed against potential overspeeding.

The fog lamps have the curve light function. The list of comfort, assistance and safety also features optional heated front seats, heated leather steering wheel and sunroof.

The interior of the KARL is spacious and comfortable and infotainment aboard the new Opel model may be commanded by IntelliLink, a system that allows you to integrate various functions and applications of smartphones with iOS and Android devices.

The entry model in the Opel range will complement from summer 2015 the offer of the German brand in city and utilitary cars.
