R-Space continues to spread new Renault design image

Renault has added one more concept car that is part of the brand’s new design approach. Following the DeZir and Captur, the French automaker revealed at this year’s Geneva Motor Show the R-Space a muli-purpose vehicle with flowing and sporty silhouette that features a monospace architecture to accommodate passengers comfortably.

Compared with the Scénic the R-Space has been shortened by almost 100mm, with 4250mm. The R-Space also offers greater interior space which comes with a great amount of flexibility thanks to a floor covered in manoueverable cubes that move up and down to form a variety of useable surfaces.

These 27 cubes are fitted with miniature motors that can be positioned in four different settings, going from an all-flat surface, to a booster seat, a table or a random configuration.

The R-Space is powered by the new smaller TCe turbocharged petrol engine from Renault that is set to be launched next year. According to Renault, this three-cylinder engine with a capacity of just 900cc has the ability to provide a performance that would be expected from a 1.6-litre engine with 110hp and 160Nm of torque. The brand says that it will deliver a fuel consumption of 3.7l/100km and will produce CO2 emissions of 95g/km.

In terms of performance the R-Space concept is said to be able to reach a top speed of 200km/h, accelerating from 0 to 100km/h in 11 seconds.

The R-Space has also been fitted with a system to further enhance fuel economy. Just by pressing the Eco button, the DRIVINGECO² system automatically adapts engine response in relation to the various parameters influencing energy consumption such as altitude, ambient temperature, use of heater, etc.

The concept presented at the Geneva Motor Show gives customers a glimpse of what they might expect for the next generation of the Scénic.
