Renault reveals the DeZir concept

Renault has revealed the first pictures of its new concept car: the DeZir. The two-seater coupe concept is set to make its world debut at the 2010 Paris Motor Show and is the first demonstration of the future design of the future Renault models.

With the French brand trying to express passion through the curvy lines and the red finish, the Dezir is powered by an electric motor, trying to prove that love for cars and environmental concern can be compatible.

With the design team being led by Laurens van den Acker, the DeZir is the first concept car in a sequence that will give a preview of Renault Design’s vision for the future.

"DeZir is a statement of our new formal design language which conveys notions such as movement, sensuality and emotion through ideal proportions, in much the same way as an object whose forms have been honed by nature. The result is a warm, stimulating design that says 'Renault'," explains Axel Breun, Renault's Director of Concept Car and Show Car Design.

The front-end design of the concept car is a preview of the new front-end identity that should become a feature of all Renault models in the future. The gull-wing doors are one of the features of the DeZir which reveals refined interior.

The DeZir concept car is powered by an electric motor mounted in a mid-rear position to optimize weight distribution over the front and rear wheels. Its power is handled by a vertically-mounted 24kW/h lithium-ion battery located behind the benchseat, providing a range of 160km.

Although the basic motor is the same as the unit used for Renault's production electric cars, an evolution has grown its power and torque to 110kW (150 hp) and 226Nm respectively. Thanks to the power of its engine and its lightweight body made from Kevlar the DeZir is able to reach 100 km/h in five seconds.
