Renault Takes Order for 15,000 Electric Kangoo Vans

After a call for bids for electric vehicles by the French public authorities, Renault has won the competition to sell 15,637 Kangoo ZE electric vans to 19 large French companies over a four year period. 

The Kangoo ZE is an electrically-powred cargo van that costs €15,000 in France after a €5,000 environmental deduction, excluding VAT. All Renault dealers in France started offering the vehicle for sale on October 28. Buyers of the Kangoo ZE purchase the vehicle but lease the battery. The battery lease starts at €72 but can be as much as €125 depending on duration of the contract and number of kilometers it is used. The Kangoo ZE has a range of 160km and takes six to eight hours for a full charge from a 220v outlet. Its engine produces 44kW (60hp).

Of the vans, 10,000 of them were purchased by La Poste so the French will occasionally their packages in a zero emissions vehicle
