Nico Rosberg has committed his future to Mercedes GP with a contract extension until 2013. His decision was influenced by a restructure at Mercedes that took place over the summer.
Mercedes has announced the appointment of Geoff Willis as technology director and Bob Bell as technical director, while Aldo Costa is an impending arrival from Ferrari.
Rosberg was quick to note the role of Ross Brawn in his decision as well, commenting that Brawn has implemented changes to move the team forward.
He also commented that while he is full of confidence that good times lie ahead he has to be patient. Rosberg expanded by saying “the gap is quite large at the moment...next year our aim is to battle consistently for podiums.”
Another argument may be that Rosberg would not be in a position to take one of the other top drives at the moment, and that Mercedes still offers the best opportunity for the German driver.
