Now two-time world champion Sebastian Vettel is getting a special edition Infiniti FX named after him. After unveiling the car at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the FX Sebastian Vettel is now going into production.
The midsize SUV gets a tuned version of Infiniti's 5.0 liter V8 producing 420PS, which is about 30hp more than the standard engine. Weight has been cut by 46kg over a standard FX50. The car also has larger 21in wheels, carbon fiber trim and a F1 blade-style front splitter. Top speed will be 300km/h and 0-100km/h acceleration takes 5.6 seconds.
The truck sits 20mm lower than a standard FX50, which leads to a 5% decrease in its coeffcient of drag. The suspension has also been tightened and redampened by Infiniti.
Infiniti says that this vehicle is kind of a pilot program for them. Now that Infiniti is sponsoring the Red Bull Racing Formula 1 team, it wants to improve its image as performance car maker to compete against BMW's M cars and Mercedes' AMG.
It makes sense if you are looking to buy a performance car. Buyers will definitely look at BMW, AMG, Audi and maybe even Lexus, but Infiniti does not make a vehicle to compete in that market.
Infiniti has not yet announced a price for the truck but should be available soon.
