"We at Volkswagen are all delighted that the Golf has been named ‘World Car of the Year’. To win this award again shows that the Golf is and remains in a class of its own all around the world. The voting results for the World Car of the Year awards have not yet been announced.
The Golf has won the 2013 World Car of the Year award. It recently won the European Car of the Year award with more than double the votes of its nearest competitor. It is the fourth VW win since 2009.
The Boxster and Cayman are combined for their nominations in both the World Car and Performance Car of the Year categories. It won the World Performance Car of the Year award. The Cayman last won the award in 2006, and the 911 won in 2012.
The Tesla Model S won the World Green Car of the Year award. Like the Zoe, it is a pure electric vehicle, but the Tesla has a longer range and more luxurious features than the Renault
The F-Type wonthe World Car Design of the Year category. Nominations are based on cars available for sale between January 1, 2012, and May 30, 2013. Last year, the Land Rover Evoque won the award.
The A-Class is nominated for overall World Car of the Year. It took fifth place in the European Car of the Year competition that was announced at the Geneva Motor Show
The sports coupe carries many names across the world and is sold by both Toyota and Subaru, but they are all the same car. It is nominated in the World Car and Performance categories. The cars finished in second place for the European Car of the Year award
The Ferrari F12berlinetta is nominated the World Performance Car of the year category. The Ferrari 458 won the category last year.
The Renault Zoe is nominated in the World Green Car category. Because of the special technology in these cars, five experts chose the finalists to be voted on by the entire 66-member jury.
The Volvo V60 Plug-in Hybrid is the final car nominated in the Green Car category. Unlike the Zoe or Model S, the V60 uses a diesel engine with a plug-in hybrid to improve economy.
The Vanquish is nominated in the World Car Design of the Year category. The Aston Martin Rapide won the award last year.
The final car nominated in the design category is the new generation Mazda 6. Unlike the Vanqush and F-Type, the 6 is not an extremely expensive sportscar. The 6 is realistically attainable by nearly any buyer.
