The SLS AMG and E63 AMG have been voted by the readers of German car magazine "Auto Bild Sportscars" as "Sports Car of the Year" in the "Production Super Sports Cars" and "Production Saloons" categories, respectively. Almost 70,000 readers of the magazine participated on the vote casting.
The award ceremony took place at the Essen Motor Show as part of the Auto Bild "Race Night".
Competing against 11 other cars the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG took the win in the "Production Super Sports Car" category, thanks to the vote of 24.5 percent of readers of Auto Bild Sportscars.
The E 63 AMG took the award home after beating a strong field of 15 vehicles in the "Production Saloon" category. The Mercedes-Benz saloon won with 19.2 percent of votes and came top in its class for the second year running.

Since it premiered at the International Motor Show (IAA) in 2009 in Frankfurt, the SLS AMG has won several major awards, most recently the gold Design Prize of the Federal Republic of Germany 2011. The list of awards includes:
