SLS AMG: production underway

After being presented at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt/Main in September 2009, the new gullwing model from Mercedes-Benz has already started being produced in Sindelfingen, the largest production plant of the German brand.

One of the main features of the SLS is the heavy emphasis on hand-production, work that can be found in the aluminium spaceframe, the engine and also during final assembly.

Magna Steyr Fahrzeugtechnik GmbH in Graz/Austria is responsible for the chassis and aluminium bodyshell production. The lightweight spaceframe uses innovative joining techniques which tips the scales at only 241 kilograms.

The 420 kW (571 hp) AMG 6.3-litre V8 engines are being produced at the AMG engine workshops in Affalterbach, following the the "one man, one engine" principle.

In Sindefingen, specially selected, highly qualified specialists produce the gullwing model substantially by hand. This assembly lines and production facilities have been adapted to the most modern standards for final assembly of the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG.

The SLS AMG will have its market launch from 27th March, 2010 and will have a seling price of 177,310 EUR (incl. 19 % VAT).
