"The weight of that market today is outside North America, predominately Europe. It is growing in China. I think when we launch our SUV here, you are going to see quite significant growth in that segment in the U.S,” said Jeep CEO Mike Manley.

The baby Jeep does not yet have a name but would use a front-drive Fiat compact platform. It will be 4.2m long, the same length as an EcoSport.

"From a ride and fuel economy perspective, it will be competitive. The utility that you will get in an SUV in terms of cabin space and everything else,” said Manley.

The new Cherokee also uses a Fiat-derived platform, and it is also used by the Dodge DartDart (modern)Dodge Dart (modern)United States of America, 2012 > present26 versions
