Smart Builds 1.5 millionth Fortwo at Hambach factory

"1.5 million smart fortwo vehicles underline the uniquely compact smart’s success as city car. It inspires drivers in more and more metropolitan areas around the world, because no other car is so perfectly adapted to urban driving,” said Smart President Dr. Annette Winkler.

was made just before the factory went on its summer break. The factory will stop production of cars for two months while new machines are installed in preparation for the next generation Fortwo, which is scheduled to start production next year.

“As of 2014, we will additionally offer our customers an entirely newly developed four-seated urban mobility car again,” said Winkler

The €200 million upgrade will be the largest since the plant began building Fortwos and will include new assembly machines for more flexible production and new paint shop.
