Smart will have the 2012 Fortwo with a redesigned front end on sale in April in Germany and will roll it out in Europe over the rest of the spring.
The new front end has a larger radiator opening and features the new Smart logo. It also has horizontally-arranged LED driving lights, side skirts and a cleaner rear design. The lower opening is now a single piece with the foglights integrated on either side. Smart is also offering three new wheel designs: a nine-spoke design standard on the Fortwo Passion, a three-spoke design and a 3-twin-spoke design.
"The way in which the Fortwo now displays the smart logo more prominently stands for the brand's new self-confidence. The Smart Fortwo has long become an icon that is a defining feature of urban traffic throughout the world," said Dr Annette Winkler head of Smart.
Smart has also made changes to the inside of the Fortwo. There is a new interior package with Crystal Grey leather and fabric seats, a fake leather, fabric covering for the door panels and fake black leather on the instrument panel.
