name. At the Frankfurt Motor Show, Smart is showing the first glimpse of the brand’s future with the four-seat Smart FourjoyFourjoysmart FourjoyGermany, 2014 > 2014 concept.

The Fourjoy is minimal in the extreme. It has no doors, no rear windows and an open roof, which means more emphasis has been put on the interior because there are little exterior to speak of. The car is 799mm longer and 419mm wider than a current Fortwo.

However, the design is still clearly from Smart. It has short overhangs and a tridion safety cell. It is painted in white pearlescent paint, and the safety cell is polished aluminum.

“The Smart Fourjoy is the perfect icon of our smart design philosophy that is being carried into a new era. For the first time we are showing the future sporty four-seater character of the new smart family,” said Gorden Wagener, Head of design at Daimler.

Power comes from a 74hp electric motor with a 17.6kWh battery pack. It means that the car does not really need a grill to bring in air to cool the engine. Instead, the Smart emblem is placed in the middle of the front and surrounded by a honeycomb that it is incorporated into the front.

The interior features two, individually molded seats and a single, molded bench in the rear. The seats’ rear is covered in chrome. The dashboard and instrument panel are made from plexiglass with touch-sensitive portions, and it is illuminated from the rear.

Smart says that the Fourjoy shows the exterior proportions of the future Smart four-seater production car that will go on sale at the end of 2014.
