On July 27 a three-man team began their attempt to drive a slightly modified Volkswagen TouaregTouareg 3.0 V6 TDI AltitudeVolkswagen Touareg 3.0 V6...Germany, 2010 > present4 photos
from Melbourne, Australia, to St. Petersburg, Russia. On August 13, the team arrived in St. Petersburg setting a new record time of 17 days, 18 hours and 49 minutes on the 23,000km journey. The two cities were chosen because they are the most northern and southern most cities in the world with over a million inhabitants.

Touareg with a 3.0 TDI V6 engine with 225ps. It was modified with a roll cage and larger fuel tank. The team carried a letter from the mayor of Melbourne to the highest city official in St. Petersburg.

"The car performed well despite the poor quality of the Asian diesel," said Zietlow.

The team was slowed down in Indonesia due to the weather. It took them three days to get through the country. You can view some of the videos that the team took at the journey's official web site here. Below are a few of the videos.

Last year, the same team set the world's fastest ever time crossing the Pan-American highway from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego in 11 days, 17 hours and 22 minutes. They drove a similar 3.0 TDI V6 Touareg on that journey as well.
