will share the chassis, but Renault will not be showing it until later. 

Smart is betting heavily on the new rear-engine platform. The new Forfour will still be rear-engined but offer significantly more room than the Fortwo. A new Smart crossover will use the same platform and also be a larger vehicle. 

The Smart Hambach, France, factory has shutdown in the past few weeks to begin upgrading to build the new model. The €200 million upgrade will be the largest since the plant began building Fortwos and will include new assembly machines for more flexible production and new paint shop.

“As of 2014, we will additionally offer our customers an entirely newly developed four-seated urban mobility car again,” said Smart President Dr. Annette Winkler.
