since at least the summer of 2012, and it seems that it will finally hit the market in the spring of 2014.

The California will take the 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 from the latest Maserati QuattroporteQuattroporte Gen.6Maserati Quattroporte Gen.6Italy, 2013 > present26 versions

, which produces 523hp and 479lb-ft in that application. It is a 40hp and 107lb-ft of torque upgrade over the current California, and that is if Ferrari does not turn up the boost on the engine to increase power even further. The engine will likely be mated to a seven-speed dual clutch transmission.

Ferrari CEO Amedeo Felisa has hinted that it may take the opportunity of the new engine to refresh the California’s styling as well with an updated body and interior.

The updated California is expected to be shown at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2014.

Below is a video showing a version of the California testing, and from the engine noise, it is clearly turbocharged.
