Vettel holds Red Bull on top on second day of tests

Red Bull is on good shape in Barcelona, as the team remained on top on second day at Barcelona. Today it was Vettel’s time to give another demonstration of the RB7’s pace.

After Mark Webber topped the timesheet yesterday, today it was the time for his team-mate to do the same. He was quick to climb to the top of the order during the morning and performed a blistering 1m21.865s time at the start of a five-lap run.

Vettel got the fastest lap that anyone had in Barcelona testing so far, with an advantage of 0.7 seconds, but he didn’t manage to always keep that pace. Still in several attempts he managed to run into low-1m21s again. During the afternoon it was time for the long runs, with average times of 1m28s.

With Sebastien Buemi Toro Rosso continues its impressive winter testing as Red Bull-owned teams made a one-two in Barcelona.

During the afternoon the French made is fastest lap in 1m22.396s, which followed a race simulation in the morning. During the whole day Buemi completed 120 laps although he stopped on track, causing red flag mid-afternoon and still had the time to practice pitstops at the end of the day.

A similar schedule was followed by Lotus Renault’s Vitaly Petrov, who at the end of the day had the third quickest time on track with a 1m22.670s at the start of a four-lap stint.

McLaren had yet another tough day in Barcelona, with a leak and then two exhaust issues causing the interruption of Lewis Hamilton's morning session. Because of that the team had to skip the planned race simulation, but the British driver still managed to be the fourth quickest of the day on a single-lap, qualifying-style run in the afternoon.

With a new exhaust and some aerodynamic changes being introduced to Ferrari’s car, Felipe Massa was the fifth quickest of the day. Still the day was encouraging as Massa with no one-lap-only runs managed to run his best time at the start of a five-lap outing and on the longer runs his paced was close to Vettel’s.
