Ford and Volvo just submitted their new vehicles to Euro NCAP for crash testing, and both of them did very well.
The Volvo V60 received five star results and was awarded as Best in Class large Family car in the 2011 Euro NCAP rating. The S60 also got a five star score from Euro NCAP, and both cars got five star results from the National Highway Safety Administration in the US.
"It is very good news that our aim to offer customers the safest cars on the market is confirmed by several independent evaluations on different continents," said Thomas Broberg, Senior Safety Advisor at Volvo Car Corporation.
Ford had equally good results for Euro NCAP. The Focus was awarded as Best in Class small family car and got a five-star rating from the organization. The Focus also got four advanced awards for its Driver Alert technology, Forward Alert, Active City Stop and Lane Keeping Aid. The Ford Ranger is considered by Euro NCAP as the safest pickup that it has ever tested, and it received the only five-star rating ever given to a pickup truck. It also scored well for its pedestrian protection.
“This award has special meaning because designing and building the safest vehicles possible is a core value at Ford,” said Stephen Odell, chairman and CEO, Ford of Europe.
