Volvo Begins Testing Electric C30 in Shanghai

Volvo has begun testing an electric version of the C30 in Jiading just outside of Shanghai. Volvo aims to test demand for electric cars in China and to test out how Chinese buyers would use electric cars. The Chinese government is building an infastructure of 13,000 charging and 15 battery-swapping locations.

"The Volvo C30 is the first electric car from an international brand that will be presented and involved in various activities here.It will promote cooperation and communication between international and domestic auto makers on new energy vehicles," says Ni Yaomin, Deputy Governor of Jiading District, Shanghai.

The electric C30 is powered by a 20kWh battery with a range of 150km. It will accelerate to 50km/h in four seconds and has a top speed of 130km/h.

The electric C30 is also testing in Sweden and Belgium.
