sees its Drive-E engine family as the future of the brand. By offering the diesel and petrol engines in turbocharged and hybrid versions, it believes that it completely replace six- and eight-cylinder engines from its lineup with significantly better emissions and fuel economy. “The official European NEDC certification now confirms that we outperform competitors when it comes to power versus CO2 emissions”, said Derek Crabb, head of powertrain engineering at Volvo.

The base of the Drive-E family comes from a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Its top version is also supercharged and has 306hp to emit 149g/km of CO2. It is available in the S60 T6 with an eight-speed automatic and hits 100km/h in 5.9 seconds. It is the first combustion engine in the segment to create 2hp for each gram of CO2 emissions.

There is also the D4 version with 181hp and 99g/km of CO2 emissions. The diesel versions of the Drive-E family use fuel injectors with a pressure sensor for each cylinder to constantly adjust fuel pressure.

The hybrid versions of the Drive-E engines have not go on sale yet but will come soon. Depending on the car, the electric motor will be placed at the front or the rear. The batteries for all the hybrids will be stored in the center of the car. It will be the top engine in the new XC90XC90Volvo XC90Sweden, 2002 > 201355 versions
