meet on May 31 in Reifnitz, Austria. The group's goal was to style their own interpretation of the GTI.

The group of apprentices are made up of four women and five men aged between 18 and 24, plus their two instructors. Their specialties range from mechatronics, technician for plastic and rubber technology, automotive painters and interior fitters

"Restyling the Golf GTI means the apprentices have access to all kinds of components from the Volkswagen model range. As a result, the show car symbolizes diversity, innovation and quality ‘made by Volkswagen," said Professor Werner Neubauer who sponsored the project and is a member of the VW board.

The team is keeping the car's actual design close to the cuff, but they wanted to use as many custom made parts as possible. The car's theme is 'sporty travel.' The team says that it means the car will have a sporty chassis with a comfortable interior. The interior team reupholstered the seats by hand.

"Elegant and simple with lots of stylish accents – that’s how we want our Golf GTI to look," said apprentice Lisa Batke.

This is the fifth time that VW has given its apprentices a chance to tune their own GTI for Wörthersee since 2004.

I believe this must be quite an experience. I worked as an intern on a car to be displayed at the Paris Mondial. More than 15 years later, I am still proud of it ;-)
