Canyon at the IAA Commercial Vehicles Show in Hanover. Both vehicles show Volkswagen's continued support for off-road vehicles.
The Amarok Canyon is simply a concept of the current Amarok with extra accessories. The major upgrades include 17in all-terrain wheels and tires, a lamp bar, styling bar and interior upgrades. The Canyon starts as the Trendline trim of the Amarok. It is painted in a bold red/orange paint that VW called Copper Orange. Volkswagen also smoked the rear lights; added a cargo cover and added underbody guards as well. It is powered by two tunes of the 2.0-liter TDI diesel with either 179PS or 140PS. Both come with all-wheel drive
While VW calls the Canyon a concept, it plans to offer the car for sale in 2013. The production version will offer an optional hard top cargo cover to replace the soft cargo top on the concept, and 18in wheels will be optional. The production version will also be available in Copper Orange, Reflex Silver, Natural Grey and Sand Beige.
Volkswagen has not announced pricing for the Canyon yet but says that it will closer to launch.
The other vehicle that Volkswagen is debuting at the IAA show is the Caddy Cross. The big change for the Caddy Cross is all-wheel drive and a new body kit. The version that VW is showing at the IAA show is painted in Viper Green, which will be available on the production version.
The body kit adds body color front and rear bumpers and more pronounced wheel arches. Volkswagen has also added roof rails, side strips and underbody guards. The interior is two-tone green and black on the seats and door inserts. The steering wheel, hand brake and gearshift are covered in leather.
The Caddy Cross will be available in the first half of 2013. The UK engine lineup has not been confirmed yet, but continental Europe will get the full range of Caddy engines.
