*Upgrade: Ford has released more details about the new Mondeo since discussing the 1.0-liter Ecoboost this morning. The new information has been added to the post below.
Ford plans for the Mondeo to be a major seller in Europe and popular in the US as the Fusion. It is the first time that the two cars will be the same model. It will also be sold as a notchback and wagon.
We have seen the car's new styling since the introduction of the Fusion in January. It has the new Aston Martin-inspired nose, lower roofline, trapezoidal headlights and sculpted sides. It will be optionally available with full LED headlights.

The Mondeo will only get the 125ps tune of the 1.0-liter Ecoboost. It produces 175Nm and 200Nm in overboost mode and emits 130g/km of CO2.
“Both ingenuity and affordability are part of our ‘Go Further’ brand promise, and we believe that having been the first to produce a compact engine capable of meeting the expectations of CD-segment customers, we can now establish a new benchmark for engine down-sizing within this competitive sector,” said Rolf Deges, Mondeo assistant chief program engineer.
Ford will also offer a hybrid version in Europe with a 2.0-liter petrol engine and 35kWh battery pack.
Those are the only two engines have revealed so far for the new Mondeo, but more are expected to be announced.
The Mondeo will launch with Ford's voice-activated SYNC system and and MyFord Touch infotainment system. It will also offer rear inflatable seatbelts for rear passenger protection.
Ford has not said exactly when the new Mondeo will go on sale, but the car has been delayed until 2013.
