On March 30th the 5 millionth Audi A4 rolled off the assembly line in Ingolstadt, Germany. This particular milestone A4 was a Misano Red 3.0-liter TDI Avant, Audi-speak for sports wagon. A4 production started in 1994, as a replacement to Audi’s 80 model. The A4 is also produced in Neckarsulm, and most recently, China.
The A4 continues to be Audi’s best selling platform and has won numinous awards, including “best mid-size sedan” four years running from Germany’s popular “Auto Motor und Sport” magazine. The A4 is more than just the “best mid-size sedan”; it shares the platform with the A4 Avant (wagon), A4 All-Road and our favorites, the powerful S4 sedan & S4 Avant.
According to Frank Dreves, Member of the Board of Management for Production at Audi AG. “This is another major milestone in Audi’s history. All versions of the A4 are efficient, elegant and enjoy outstanding success in their class,” He continues, “Our highly motivated team and our effective Audi production system will keep this model on course for continued success in the future.”
It’s easy to see why Audi has been successful with the A4. They’ve pioneered mass-market four-wheel drive and coupled it with luxury, technology and sporty handling. Further, Audi has some of the best interiors in the business. In Germany, among other global markets, the Audi A4 is also know for retaining it’s low depreciation rate and high resale value.
