Venturing into new grounds, BMW presents the 6 Series Gran Coupe. The third model in the current 6 Series line-up is the first four-door Coupe in the history of the German brand.
The premium segment coupe measures 5,007 mm in length and has a wheelbase of 2,968 mm. On the exterior, the front-end design resembles the current 6 Series identity with model-specific electroplated bars between the air intake and foglamps; twin round headlights with three-dimensional light rings and optional adaptive LED headlights.
The silhouette features the Coupe-style roof line and “Gran Coupe” lettering on the C-pillar. The rear view emphasizes the width of the car, the L-shaped LED rear lights are the same as on the Coupe and Convertible variants. The Gran Coupe interior comes with driver-focused cockpit and a seating position slightly higher than in the BMW 6 Series Coupe and Convertible.
The BMW Gran Coupe will be available in three engine versions: The 640i with six-cylinder in-line petrol engine (235 kW/320 hp), twin-scroll turbocharging, direct injection and VALVETRONIC; the BMW 640d Gran Coupe (230 kW/313 hp) with variable sequential turbocharging and common-rail direct injection (available from launch) and the flagship BMW 650i Gran Coupe with a new eight-cylinder engine (330 kW/450 hp) with two turbochargers, direct injection and VALVETRONIC.
All model variants are fitted as standard with an eight-speed sports automatic transmission and Driving Experience Control switch; BMW EfficientDynamics, including Auto Start-Stop function and ECO PRO mode, come as standard with all engine variants.
The debut of the new BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe might be expected to happen at the Geneva Motor Show in spring 2012.
