that is one of the most popular premium convertibles, with over 130,000 units sold worldwide. The official presentation of the new 2 Series Convertible will take place at the Paris Motor Show.
The new rear-wheel drive convertible is larger than the coupe version of the 2 Serie with an extra 72 mm of length (4432mm), 26mm extra width (1774) and 30mm extra wheelbase (2690mm). Thanks to the new dimensions BMW states that the vehicle facilitates entrance and exit from the car, apart from increasing load capacity. When the soft-top is placed the load capacity is 335 liters, but when it is down the size is reduced to 280 liters.

with a retractable hardtop, the new Series 2 Convertible has a fabric softtop. Besides allowing a reduction in weight, this option also serves as a way to lower the costs of the model.
The roof opens and closes automatically in 20 seconds with the touch of a button on the center console below speeds of 48.2km/h. The new soft-top receives a new four-layer fabric that provides additional insulation and greater acoustic comfort.
The Series 2 Convertible weighs about 150kg more than the coupé variant due to the roof mechanism of and the extra reinforcement of the chassis side panels.
Engines
The new Series 2 Convertible will be marketed with four more powerful and more efficient engines than its 1 Series predecessor. The top range version M235i is equipped with a 3.0 liter TwinPower Turbo inline six-cylinder engine with 326hp and 450Nm of torque. Combined with a manual six-speed gearbox, the M235i Convertible reaches 100km/h in 5.2 seconds and a top speed of 250km/h. In terms of efficiency BMW states it has an average fuel consumption of 8.5l/100km and emissions of 199g/km of CO2.
Two petrol versions are offered with different outputs through a four-cylinder 2.0 TwinPower engine.
The 220i Convertible with 184hp and 270Nm of torque can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 7.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 231km/h. With an average consumption of 6,8l/100km, this version produces 159g/km of CO2.
The 228i Convertible has 245hp and 350Nm of torque. With the manual transmission this version reaches 100km/h in 6.1 seconds and a top speed of 250km/h. The average consumption is stated at 6,8l/100km, with CO2 emissions of 159g/km.
The only diesel variant is the 220d which gets a new four-cylinder turbodiesel engine that is already available in the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and the new generation MINI. The 2.0-liter engine has 190hp and 400Nm of torque and according to BMW this version achieves CO2 emissions of 116g/km, with an average consumption of 4,7l/100km.
All versions can be combined with an eight-speed automatic Steptronic transmission.
Interior and new technologies
The interior of the new 2 Series Convertible is quite similar to the Series 2 Coupé, but receives some updated materials such as shiny black surfaces on the center console and chrome accents around the air vents.
One new feature is a system of updating the navigation data through an integrated SIM card. The system updates several times a year, whenever new map data is available at no additional charge for the driver.
The convertible model has an automatic climate control mode. When the roof is open, cooling or heating of the car varies depending on the speed at which the car moves.
Another specific option for the convertible is a wind deflector which can be set on the back of the car.
