has unveiled the Go+, a five passenger MPV with two folding jump seats in the rear to hold seven people if the need arises, in Jakarta, Indonesia. The Go+ and the GoDatsun GOJapan, 2013 > present five-door hatchback will be built outside of Jakarta in 2014. The Go+ will be sold for less than 100 million Indonesian rupiah, which is $9,030 or €6,763 at current exchange rates. The Go+ is the only new vehicle in its price range there that offers three rows of seats.
“It's exciting to know that, for many Indonesians, the first new car they buy will be a Datsun,” said Datsun CEO Carlos Ghosn.
The Go+ shares the platform with the Go. The two of them are identical forward of the B-pillar, but behind that the roof remains higher and extends farther. It is 3.995m long, 1.635m wide, 1.485m tall and has a wheelbase of 2.45m. The only powertrain option is a 1.2-liter engine and five-speed manual transmission.
The Datsun models are meant for emerging markets, but they have to be competitive. Datsun engineers tune each car to the region that they will be sold in. The engineers look at the needs, lifestyle and driving conditions for each country the car is sold in and engineer the car to the needs of the drivers.
Datsun predicts that by 2016 it will account for 50% of Nissan sales in many emerging markets.
Datsun will begin production in India, Indonesia, Russia and South Africa in 2014.
