The other new variant of the Hyundai Elantra is the five-door hatchback Elantra GT. The Elantra GT is based on the Hyundai i30 sold in Europe. Hyundai intends it to compete with the Ford Focus, Mazda3 and Volkswagen Golf. The Elantra GT will be on sale in the US later this year.
The Elantra GT is a five-door hatchback that shares the front nose with the regular Elantra. It shares the style line that flows across the side of the Elantra, but, given the hatchback, the rear is totally the different.
The car comes exclusively with the 1.8 liter, four-cylinder engine that is available in all of the other versions of the Elantra. The engine produces 148hp and 131lb-ft of torque. It comes with either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. Hyundai claims that the Elantra GT gets 28mpg in the city and 39mpg on the highway with either transmission, which ranks it among the best in terms of fuel economy with the cars that it is competing against. The Elantra is also the lightest of the bunch. It is also among the best in interior volume compared to its competitors.
Inside the Elantra GT offers several luxury features. Heated and cooled seats are standard with a power drivers seat. There are also standard steering-wheel mounted radio and Bluetooth control. There is also an optional 7in navigation screen and backup camera. Dual-zone climate control is also an option. It comes standard with a 172W stereo.
The Elantra GT will available later this year for sale, and Hyundai has not announced a price yet.
