in the United States, and while the Energi was always going to beat the Prius V in fuel economy, Ford has also just revealed that the C-Max Hybrid also beats the Prius V in fuel economy. The C-Max Hybrid is rated at 47mpg city (5.005l/100km) and 47mpg highway in the US. Comparatively, the Prius V is rated at 44mpg city (5.346l/100km) and 40mpg highway (5.88l/100km).
"We’ve done this with innovation – represented by nearly 500 hybrid patents – while driving costs down 30 percent so we can bring these fuel-saving vehicles to more customers,” said Ford Vice President of Powertrain Engineering Joe Bakaj.
The car has a 2.0-liter Atkinson cycle engine producing 141hp and 129lb-ft of torque with a CVT transmission. The C-Max Hybrid can at up to 62mph in EV mode. In comparison the Prius v has 134hp and 153lb-ft of torque.
The C-Max Hybrid still does not have better fuel economy than the regular Prius (49.5mpg combined), but it beats the Camry Hybrid (41mpg combined). The C-Max Hybrid will have a base price of $25,995, which is $1,300 lower than the base price of the Prius V.
