Google Developing Automonous Car for Nascar Racing

Google has announced it is working with Nascar to introduce an automonous race car in the coming years.

Google says that the car will be capable of driving at up to 200 miles per hour and be able to sense cars around it. It published a gallery of images showing founder Sergey Brin in the car and doing some quite smokey burnouts.

Nascar says that its sanctioning body has been working closely with Google to establish the rules and qualifications for an autonomous car.

Google has been working on a self-driving car concept for several years, and it makes sense that the best way to prove the technology is through competition.

Nascar and Google produced a video announcing the new car that you can watch below. Be sure to read past the video for one more special note about the car.

Alright, if you have made it this far, you should know that this is an April Fools joke from Google. It is actually its second this year; the first was to reskin Google Maps as an 8-bit videogame, specifically like the game Dragon Quest for the Nintendo Entertainment System.
