Engineers at smart have reduced the fortwo cdi C02 emissions to just 86 g/km, enlarging the model’s leadership among the most environmentally friendly cars with a combustion engine.
The environmental friendliness was always one of the main features of the smart for two. This diesel version was already the CO2 champion thanks to its 88 g/km, but engineers managed to reduce it to 86, with a consumption of 3.3 litres of diesel per 100 kilometers in the manual “softip”.
The improvement in the smart fortwo cdi's fuel consumption and CO2 emissions follow a continuous further development by the brands engineers. For example, works in the aerodynamics of the fortwo, with a reduction in ride height by seven millimetres, resulted in improved rolling resistance characteristics.
Marc Langenbrinck, Managing Director of the smart brand says: "We continue to work hard to make our smart models even more environmentally friendly. The smart fortwo cdi - the past and the present CO2 champion - is proof of this.”
Although its engineers continue improving its combustion engine cars, smart is already taking big steps next level of sustainable drives: the smart fortwo electric drive, with a series production having already started in November 2009.
“From 2012 the dream of motoring with no local emissions will become a reality for everyone”, says Langenbrinck.
