's driver, but Hamilton manage to pass him in the DRS zone, on the out-lap.
With the McLaren driver being able to gain some advantage and Alonso and Vettel ended up opting for a one-stop strategy, trying to preserve their tyres until the end of the race. Even with an extra stop Lewis Hamilton was able to overtake both drivers, crossing the line in first and even taking the lead in the drivers' championship.
The double world champion ended up giving up the one-stop strategy, making a late visit to the boxes. At this point Alonso could only hope to try to hold to second place until the end of the race. But with the tyres more worn out than those of his rivals, the Ferrari driver fell to fifth place, overtaken by Grosjean, Perez and Vettel.
With two stops each, Nico Rosberg and Mark Webber were sixth and seventh respectively, ahead of Kimi Raikkonen and Kamui Kobayashi. On the start Felipe Massa fell to 12th position and during the race he only managed to recover to 10th place.
Jenson Button and Michael Schumacher struggled once again. The British driver was 16th after three stops, while the German retired with problems in the rear wing.
