Ahead of its world premiere at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show the first pictures of the new i40 have been revealed by Hyundai. The new i40 will make its debut together with the brand’s new slogan ‘New Thinking. New Possibilities.’
According to the brand the i40 is supposed to reflect the spirit of change at Hyundai and represent the brand’s new concept of ‘modern premium’, where premium quality and characteristics should be accessible to everyone.
The i40 is the first D-segment vehicle to be developed specifically for the European market by Hyundai and will be featuring powertrains, equipment and technology created according to the European tastes.
Being shown in Geneva in the estate variant, the i40 will also have a saloon version that will be presented later this year.
The i40 was designed and engineered at Hyundai’s R&D headquarters in Rüsselsheim, Germany and comes with a purely European identity. The new model takes its styling cues from the ‘fluidic sculpture’ design language of Hyundai, maintaining signature features such as the hexagonal grille. In this case the grille is sided by two jewel-like headlamps, with the look being accentuated by the lines that connect the front and rear of the vehicle.
As part of the new Hyundai philosophy, the i40 comes with a class-leading level of standard equipment, including heated and reclining front and rear seats, a heated steering wheel and an active de-mist system that automatically detects and clears mist on the windscreen.
The choice between efficient powertrains is also part of the new ‘modern premium’ concept and will also be available on the new i40. For example the i40’s 1.7-litre diesel engine, codenamed ‘UII’, according to Hyundai will produce CO2 emissions of 113 g/km, which will become a best-in-class figure.
The i40 is a perfect example of how we are offering the best and making it accessible to everyone. From stunning design and specification, to industry-leading technology and aftersales care – the i40 sets itself apart from its competitors,” said Allan Rushforth, Senior Vice President and COO of Hyundai Motor Europe.
