Lamborghini Aventador J is Every Little Boy's Automotive Fantasy Made Real

Lamborghini Aventador J Officially Revealed

Lamborghini has revealed one of the cars it will show at the Geneva Motor Show tomorrow that blends the brands past and future. The Aventador J Concept takes its name from the Miura Jota, and it takes the 700hp Aventador and transforms it into a biposto sports car with no available top. Lamborghini claims that the car is capable of a top speed of 300km/h (186mph).

“The new Lamborghini Aventador J is the most radical open supersports car of Lamborghini’s history. Its name comes from our tradition and combines an unconventional design with technology innovation. Nowadays we are confronted with several regulations that we face in the spirit of challenge. The Aventador J is the proof that, despite the rules, Lamborghini will always make people dream, even in the future,” said Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini.

The actual body of the Aventador J is based on the carbon fiber monocoque of the regular Aventador, and its 6.5 liter V12 with 700hp. It also uses Lamborghini's ISR, seven-speed automatic transmission, all-wheel drive and and push-rod suspension.

However, the car's design can only be called wild. It is large with a 4.89m total length and 2.03m overal width, but the side-view mirrors, which are mounted on periscope-like arms, are the highest points on the car. Otherwise, the car is all long and low sharp lines and edges. Passengers are exposed directly to the elements, especially the wind, and Lamborghini touts that occupants should be prepared to dress like motorcycle riders.

The changes from the Aventador J come predominantly from the car's weight loss. It has a modified monocoque with integrated roll bars. The loss of the roof, smaller windshield, ditched air conditioning and navigation system. The seats and other parts of the interior are made from a new carbon fiber fabric called Carbonskin.  Carbonskin was developed by Lamborghini, and it owns the patent on the lightweight material. Although, Lamborghini is not saying exactly how much weight is lost.

The wheels are 20in in front and 21in in the rear with Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) fans inside of them to pull cool air into the brakes.

The original Jota name came from the Spanish pronunciation of the letter J, which at the time was the FIA Appendix that defined the specification of race cars – Appendix J.

No word on if this car will ever see production, but expect to see many of these features on future cars. BMW is using CFRP on its new i-series, and because Carbonskin is a patented Lamborghini product, expect to see it in future cars almost for certain.

Still no word on what the Lamborghini Unica will look like. Though, it should be coming soon.

The center rear view mirror kind of spoils it for me, looks a bit pointless and counteracts the side mirrors, but boy... I'm nitpicking here. This is gorgeous, absolutely drool-worthy.

I'd love to know what that carbon fiber seat fabric feels like.

Imagine this car was matte black and tell me it wouldn't be the perfect car for Vader?

That is a fantastic helmet! "Some say that he's met Darth Vader personally. And that he, is really Luke's father. He's not the Stig, but he is the Stig's, nerd cousin..."
