A few days after unveiling the new generation
C-Class Coupé,
Mercedes and AMG are revealing the sportier and top of the range version that will compete with models like the Audi RS5, BMW M4 and Lexus RC-F: the C63 AMG Coupe. The world premiere is scheduled for the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
The C63 S AMG Coupé will be the most powerful in its class when it hits the market, surpassing its most direct rivals. It is equipped with the same bi-turbo V8 4.0-liter petrol engine from the
C63 sedan and
estate versions and has an output of 510hp and 700Nm of torque.
According to official figures released by Mercedes, the most powerful C63 S AMG Coupé version can reach 100km/h in 3.9 seconds, 0.4 seconds less than its predecessor. Top speed is electronically limited to 250km/h, but can be extended up to 290km/h with the Driver's Package.
In terms of design the new C63 AMG Coupé is significantly different from the base versions of the C-Class Coupé. Despite framless doors, the roof and the tailgate, all elements of the new C63 AMG Coupé were created specifically for this vehicle with bigger fenders both front and rear.
The car also features standard AMG design characteristics like the front bumpers structured with black insert and an integrated front splitter, as well as a prominent grille with the three-pointed star large logo, the turbo V8 badges on the flanks, black mirror householdings, a subtle spoiler on the trunk base, a unique rear bumper and four trapezoidal exhaust pipes integrated into the rear diffuser.
As with the sedan and station wagon versions, the C63 AMG Coupé will also be sold with two different power outputs, 476hp and 510hp. Power is transmitted to the 4.0-liter V8 engine through a seven-speed automatic transmission. The driver can choose from four driving modes as standard and five modes in the C63 S AMG Coupé version. The stability control system also has three different settings: On, Sport and Off.
Despite the increase in power and performance levels, Mercedes has a significantly more efficient model than its predecessor. The average consumption announced for the C63 AMG Coupé is 8,9l/100km and CO2 emissions of 209g/km.
