racecars that will likely never see the track. Although, it will be quite capable with its 6.3-liter V8.
The five cars wear exclusive designo magno graphite matte paint, and the wheels and roll cage are painted the same color. There is also a "45 Years of Driving Performance" logo on each gullwing door. The logo is not a simple decal; it is actually a stencil with no paint applied that shows the car's carbon fiber skin.
The rest of the car is the same as the SLS GT3 racecar. The doors, hood, mudguards, trunk, rear fenders, front and rear apron, front splitter and rear diffuser are all made from carbon fiber reinforced plastic. The dashboard and seats are made from carbon fiber as well. Unlike most of the racecars, the 45th anniversary edition comes with a passenger seat as well.
Noted Mercedes DTM driver Bernd Schneider who had a hand in developing the car will sign a certificate that will come with each of the five cars, and he will personally inspect each of the cars prior to delivery. The cars will be presented to customers at the AMG headquarters in Affalterbach. Buyers will also get a tour of the factory.
Prices for the SLS AMG GT3 start at €446,250, which includes the company's 19% VAT.
Mercedes says that the cars are meant for collectors not racers, but being based so closely on the racecar, they will not be street legal.
