Mercedes SL63 AMG with Standard 537hp or Optional 564hp

The next Mercedes SL63 AMG will hit Europe in May with a new twin-turbo V8 with 537hp or an optional 564hp. Plus fuel economy of 9.9l/100km, a 30% improvement over the previous SL AMG. AMG was able to cut weight by 125kg over the previous SL thanks mostly to an aluminum monocoque. 

The new car uses a twin-turbo, 5.5l V8 with standard 537hp and 800Nm of torque. It accelerates to 100km/h in 4.3 seconds and to 200km/h in 12.9 seconds. Top speed is limited to 250km/h. The SL63 is also available with an AMG Performance package that boosts power to 564hp and 900NM. The package cuts the 0-100km/h time to 4.2 seconds, 0-200km/h time to 12.6 seconds, and it raises the top speed to 300km/h. The AMG Performance package also comes with a carbon fiber engine cover, rear differential lock and carbon fiber lip spoiler.

Mercedes developed an aluminum monocoque for the new SL that cut weight by 110kg over the previous model, while AMG cut the V8's weight by 15kg giving the new SL63 AMG a 125kg weight loss over the old model. 

The new SL63 AMG uses a seven-speed automatic transmission that comes with four selectable modes: C for controlled efficiency, S for sport, S+ for sport plus and M for manual. 

Nearly the entire suspension has been made out of aluminum. That includes the new 4-link suspension in the front. Mercedes tuned the car to give more negative camber, and it comes with Active Body Control that can be selected in either Sport or Comfort mode. It also uses speed-sensitive steering and 3-stage ESP. 

Any Mercedes SL has to exude style as much as performance. The new SL63 AMG comes with forged, 19in wheels and LED running lights. It will be available with three roofs: painted, glass or vario-roof with Magic Sky Control. 

As with many of its new models, Mercedes will offer an Edition 1 of the SL65 AMG. These cars get Airscarf, forged, black wheels, AMG Performance Package, designo leather in red or white, designo black headliner and magic sky control.

The SL63 AMG starts at €157,675, and the AMG Performance package adds €4,280. The Edition 1 costs €189,269.50. All of these prices are for Germany and include 19% VAT.
