Mitsubishi Develops New 1.8 Liter Engine for Lancer and ASX

Mitsubishi will have a new 1.8l, four-cylinder engine making 139hp and and 171Nm of torque available on the ASX and Lancer. The new engine also has stop/start technology. 

The new engine uses the latest version of Mitsubishi's MIVEV variable valve timing system and provides a 12% improvement in fuel economy while not sacrificing power over the previous 1.8l four cylinder. The system allows for vary intake valve lift, opening duration and timing continuously

The engine became available on the ASX on October 20, 2011, and will become available on the Lancer on October 27,2011.
