is selling out faster than it expected. Of the limited 375-unit run, it says that two thirds or 226 cars are already taken. That leaves 149 copies for eligible buyers around the world.

It does not expect the final copies to last for long. The company says that it has a 500-name waiting list to go through for buyers. If one person on the list does not want the P1, it just moves onto the next.

You will remember, McLaren began selling P1s before it even showed the car publically. It was secretly displayed at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance and then taken to the Middle East in search of buyers.

Each P1 costs buyers £866,000 or $1,150,000
